Veronika participated in the Training Course “Stay safe in cyber space” organized by PROJUVEN in Torremolinos, Spain
Hello Veronika! Can you give us your opinion about the project “Stay safe in cyber space“?
“Stay Safe in Cyber Space” was a project that contains amazingly viral topics for today’s world. For me personally, it was a useful project showing the dangers of the modern world as well as interesting because of the sciences that I study in terms of social, economic and legal orientation of the cases considered. The cultural exchange of opinions is one of the most positive sides of participating in this kind of a project. When it comes to cyber bulling as it was the main topic of this training, it’s really important to hear the opinion of the different culture representatives personally expressed. The project gaves opportunities to learn about the online behaviour of the young people in different countries and to make comparison analysis.
What are your tips on staying safe online?
It is difficult to circumvent the sharing of relatively personal information on social networks, for the simple reason that in today’s world much of our life is transferred to cyberspace. At the same time, however, just as in real life one needs to be cautious and responsible in order to avoid trouble in communicating with other people, so the person should act in cyberspace. The main important thing is not to share many facts about your location, not to respond to aggressive messages, comments, etc. The ignorance of aggressiveness is the most appropriate reaction to the bully. And if you are in the position of a bystander, don’t stay in this position. To help the victim is a must. The help should be done in a delicate way that would not affect the situation to become worse. So the simple but the most true advice is “Be careful at cybers pace as much as you are careful at real life”.
What is the most important thing you have learned during the training? How do you plan to share and use your knowledge?
One of the most useful things I learned during the seminar was related to GDPR. I plan in my master’s degree to do in-depth course work on this topic (the historical background on the topic of GDPR, as well as what are the prospects for the development of this legal norm, etc.). The activities in the training course also directed me to get acquainted with the legal framework related to cyber security in Bulgaria. The fact is that in Bulgaria there is a lack of specific, clear regulation of behavior in cyberspace, which could be significantly improved. In the future, I would like to share my ideas with political organizations, as well as non-profit organizations that are fighting to improve living conditions in Bulgaria as a European country.
