#PJstories – Interview with Tauno Rubin

Tauno participated in the Training Course “Stay safe in cyber space” organized by PROJUVEN in Torremolinos, Spain

Hello Tauno! Can you give us your opinion about the project “Stay safe in cyber space“?

The project “Stay safe in cyber space“ was very interesting and nice. During this week, I reminded myself and thought about what cyberbullying is and got an overview of the situation in the project partner countries. How this area is regulated by legislation and how this problem is approached. We discussed this topics throughout the week. It was very eye-catching to work in groups with participants from different countries and to broaden my horizons through it. In addition, it was very interesting to hear about life in other countries and make new friends.

What are your tips on staying safe online?

My thoughts and tips to staying safe online are:

  • Think about what you are posting!
  • Keep your passwords secure! Know good practices for online behavior!
  • Respect others on the web just as you do in your normal life!
  • If you are being bullied, record these threats and messages etc., and let an adult or friend know if you have been treated badly online! Don’t be afraid to ask for help!
  • As a bully, remember that bullying in online environments has the same consequences as in normal life! You better don’t do that !!!

What is the most important thing you have learned during the training? How do you plan to share and use your knowledge?

I plan to give some lectures about cyberbullying to the youth in my youth center. The idea is to do this playfully for young people, as the youth center is non-formal education and young people do not want to listen to any lectures after school. This requires a creative and playful approach to the subject. To do this, I will definitely use the techniques used in this training.
