Projuven coordinated the project “#RefugeesWelcome” in Malaga, Spain

Asociación Projuven had a pleasure to welcome 20 youth workers in the framework of the Erasmus Plus project “#RefugeesWelcome”. The training course took place in Torremolinos, Metropolitan Area of Malaga and involved youngsters from nine different European countries as Italy, Germany, Hungary, Austria, Bulgaria, Greece, France, Romania and Spain.

During the first days the participants got to know each other through different non formal games and presented the organizations where they come from. All participants had the chance to hear more about the other organisations: scope of work, goals, size, target groups, past activities, successful practices, future plans and contact information. During the sessions youngsters learnt more about the refugee routes, their journey to Europe and the importance of social media for reaching their destination. Different mobile applications were introduced to the participants and also popular Facebook groups and twitter accounts followed by refugees. All the participants involved in this training course were active member of their association or volunteers in other NGOs so for them was very useful to know more about the Refugees Bureaucracy and understand how they can offer direct support via social media to migrants and refugees throughout Europe and North Africa. Topic as a what questions refugees ask (information about fundamental rights, how to apply for international protection (political asylum), level of the reception system, etc. were discussed during some of the sessions.

Another important part of our training course was the visit of Faculty of Education of University of Malaga where the participants of the TC #REFUGEESWELCOME could meet and debate with the university students on topics such as social inclusion, integration, intercultural differences between countries and Erasmus Plus programme mobility in general. This event was a great chance for our participants to present their organizations and interact with people from Malaga local community and in the same time to raise awareness on refugee topic and today`s social problems.
