#PJstories – Interview with Tamara

Tamara participated in the Youth Exchange “You(th) can do it smart” in Cerasu, Romania

Hello Tamara! Can you give us an overall opinion on the project “You(th) can do it smart”?

The youth exchange in Cerasu, Romania, was the first project I have done and it has been a very enriching experience. I learn about the project on occasion and I was very dubious until the last moment because it was an experience that made me afraid of. Two days I was wondering whether to go or not to the project. Finally, I decided it and it has been an experience that has widened my soul. First of all, what I got was to lose the fear of everything and to discover that if I leave away my little bubble I can see how beautiful the world is and all the experiences that it offers me. Also, going to a country where I have never been before enriched me a lot, since it made me change my way of thinking about it, about its culture and the people living there. And finally, the possibility to meet people from Italy, Malta, Slovakia, Romania and Spain so different and at the same time so equal to me, has made me highly appreciate the friendship and all that thing that brings with it. In conclusion, the experience has been so positive that it has given me the push I needed to be able to undertake endless adventures similar to this one.

How did the group affect your personal experience during this youth exchange?

What I would like most to highlight, without a doubt, are the people who have been part of the project, and I mean everyone who has participated in it: organizers, directors, monitors, young people who have attended the exchange, etc. One experience could not become unforgettable if there are no people with a huge heart who are part of it. Also, in my opinion when somebody is away from home, becomes a much more open, much more sensitive and much more profound person. If we join people with a big heart with all the characteristics I mentioned, the result we get is an unforgettable experience.

What is the most important thing you have learned during the project?

“Who doesn’t risk, doesn’t win” is was the best that I learnt and gained from this experience. I think once you face your fears, you become unstoppable. This experience has made me realize that the world, places and people who can know are infinite, so you should not be afraid of anything. In addition, I have realized, once again, that small things are the most important.I still remember how we laughed all together, the phrases that have marked us so much that even some have been tattooed, the stumbles, the games, the dances, and especially, that last moment in which we cried so much. So thank you all for making me a little better person.
