TC „DIY: Diversity and Inclusion for Youth” in Pärnu, Estonia

Representatives of Asociación Projuven took part in the Erasmus+ project „ DIY: Diversity and Inclusion for Youth – Do it Yourself”. The training course took place from 13.08 – 21.08.2017 in Pärnu, Estonia and was attended by youth workers/teachers from 9 different European countries (Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Bulgaria, Italy, Romania, Slovenia, Slovakia and Spain).

The main aim of the project was to equip youth workers/teachers with non-formal learning competences for promoting diversity and inclusion values among young people. The activity programme was very intensive giving opportunity to all of the participants to learn more about the topic and share their knowledge related to the diversity, stereotypes and prejudices.

The first two days were dedicated to get to know each other activities and icebreakers, interesting non formal games for present themselves, their work background and expectation about the training. The participants had an opportunity to present their personal stories related to the exclusion and stereotypes through the “Living Library” non-formal activity. Everyone could share its experience and learn about the other ones. Through various non formal activities the participants were provoked to live the experience of being different and feeling excluded from the society.

After the fifth day of the training the participants were challenged to prepare in group their own non formal activity related to the topic. Different stereotypes about Refugees, LGBT, Roma people had broken during these sessions. The participants had a chance to get in touch with the most powerful videos focused on the problems which stereotypes and prejudices cause.

In addition, the training was a great opportunity to explore the traditions of the other countries thank of the Intercultural Night, but primarily to learn more about the Estonian Culture through an unforgettable dance performances and full of great emotions night.
