#PJstories – More thoughts by our participants from #NMT4H

We are sharing with you more thoughts from the participants in the Training Course No more time 4 hate” organized by PROJUVEN in Torremolinos, Spain

Hello Mark! Can you give us your opinion about the project “No more time 4 hate”?

We have examined and discussed a very actual and important topic during these few days. We have learned useful practice and have checked real examples. The whole organization was perfect.

Why should we fight/be aware of online hate speech? Is it a danger for our society?

Because it is like a crime, it is unfair and disgusting, it can cause serious problems in our society. Certainly, hate speech is a danger. It can be really harmful not only to children but also to adults.

What is the most important thing you have learned during the project? Are you planning to apply some methods/knowledge in your local community?

The Articles from the European Law. The useful practice which we can use in the everyday life, when we meet with hate speech. I am already applying the reporting methods when I see online hate speech. I am sure that I will use these practices and methods in my community when I will see any hate speech.

Hello Mariló! Can you give us your opinion about the project “No more time 4 hate”?

I think the project “No more time 4 hate” it’s a powerful one and it was pretty interesting to get to know more about it and to know all the resources and tools available to fight against it. I enjoyed they way we worked on the topic through non-formal education dynamics  and the input each participant brought.

Why should we fight/be aware of online hate speech? Is it a danger for our society?
We live a world where social media is everything, they connect us no matter how apart we are, we can upload pictures, share content… It’s a powerful tool but it’s not always used in a responsible way. If not used correctly, it can cause a lot of damage and that’s the problem with online hate speech: we don’t realise how fast information is passed along via online and to whom it’s gonna get. There are a bunch of young people that can see online hate speech and they are not mature enough to see what is really going on and that’s a danger for our society.

What is the most important thing you have learned during the project? Are you going to apply some methods/knowledge in your local community?
I’ve learned that I can really do something to fight online hate speech and that the smallest action can mean a world. I’ll try to pass along information in my local community so more people are aware.

Hello Sandor! Can you give us your opinion about the project “No more time 4 hate”?

The project was a great opportunity to meet new people, to make new friends and to discuss important things. For me personally it was the first time in Spain and I think I will remember this forever.

My point is that the people who attend more events like this will be more open to others.

Why should we fight/be aware of online hate speech? Is it a danger for our society?

We should fight online hate speech because it is distructive and humiliating for others. I just realized in the project that we Hungarians throw so much online hatespeech into each other, even without recognizing it…

As an outcome of the project I decided to report significantly more online hate speech than I used to do before. I realized that If I want changes I can start first with myself instead of just waiting for others to start.

It is danger for the society because some tend to go as far as commiting suicide as a consequence of bullying and online hate speech. And online hate speech can be done impersonally, without face, which means sometimes it is more diffucult to stop.

What is the most important thing you have learned during the project? Are you going to apply some methods/knowledge in your local community?

The most important thing I learned during the project is, as I’ve mentioned in the previous question, if I want to achieve a kind of social change I can start it myself, even if I am just one person. As a smart man said once: ‘Be yourself the change you want to see in the world.

Can you give us your opinion about the project “No more time 4 hate”?

The project was well organised and we really appreciate the engagement of organizers. Project tackled current problem, which is hate speech on the Internet. This topic is very important to u us – project coordinators and youth workers. Now we can use new tools to combat hate speech in their local communities and pass these skills to the youngsters.

Why should we fight/be aware of online hate speech? Is it a danger for our society?
Yes, because the Internet is a part of our life and we have to protect life from danger such as hate speech in order to

maintain social cohesion and civil peace. What we read, write or watch on the Internet have a huge impact. both positive and negative, on people, on our everyday life. Moreover, a lot of internet users think that they can “hide” behind nick, be anonymous, and write whatever they want. Because of that we should learn how to separate online life from real life and how to use internet without hurting others.

What is the most important thing you have learned during the project? Are you going to apply some methods/knowledge in your local community?

That there are some laws and rules which can help protect us on the Internet. For sure we will read mentioned documents and explain them to young people. Moreover, we will show them the platform created by European Commision on which they can upload their own ideas on combating the hate speech.

Simulation games were also very good tools to learn about hate. For sure we will apply them in our future projects.
